As part of the placement scheme, volunteers are asked to produce a project during their time in India. The aim of each project is to engage young people in the UK in development issues, and to challenge stereotypes about so-called ‘developing countries’. Projects are made available in the UK as development education resources or used to develop development education workshops run by the DiA committee, members and volunteers Examples of projects produced by recent volunteers are: - ‘Meet the Working Children of Bangalore’ - a project telling the stories of several working children and their families, based on interviews, photographs, children’s drawings and family trees.
- A short film about Sewa Mandir, Indore, which follows two of the students as they go about their days.
- Water resources and use in India: a case study of the Barli Development Institute for Rural Women and the city of Indore’ – particularly focusing on rain-water harvesting at Barli, and with a comparison to water usage in UK.
- A study of a group of young British people’s perceptions of India, and a group of young Indian people’s perceptions of the UK.
- A Day in the Life of Lakshmi’ –about a typical day for the medical worker at Sharana, with her daily activities illustrated using photographs of her hands.
- ‘Understanding Poverty in Keeraisathu Irular’ – a case study of a tribal village, an attempt to understand poverty from the perspective of the locals.
