Volunteer in India

In order to allow DiA to further establish its successful UK based Development Education programme there will be no India placements in 2013. We understand that this will be a disappointment for those intending to apply, however do get in touch to discuss our UK based opportunities and we may be able to point you in the direction of some of our recommended Indian partner organisations. We hope to reinstate the India Programme in full in 2014, but in the meantime sign up to our newsletter for further information and updates.

Development in Action promotes sustainable and responsible overseas volunteering through our India Volunteer Placement Scheme. Volunteers are placed with our Indian partner organisations and get the chance to experience everyday life in India, whilst experiencing grassroots development first-hand. Through the scheme volunteers gain new skills and experience as well as being encouraged to engage in the wider issues of global citizenship and sustainable development.

.

We offer two lengths of placement:

  • 2-month placement: July-September, September-November, October-December
  • 5 month placement: September-February
.

As part of our India Volunteer Programme, volunteers are asked to produce a Volunteer Reflection' during their time in India. Volunteer Reflections can take the form of photos, films, presentations, articles or reports on each volunteer experience and placement organisation. It provides a focus for reflection and learning during each volunteer placement and DiA shares them through our website as a means to build awareness of global issues beyond the individual.
.
.
Complementing the India placement, DiA offers more long-term experience through encouraging volunteers to continue contributing towards our outreach activities when they return home, by: developing educational resources; writing for our Blog; conducting awareness raising workshops and helping manage our organisation which is run almost entirely by volunteers.
