Why choose a 5-month Placement?

• Get much more involved with the partner organisation’s work
• More varied, cooler weather and more chance to travel India
• More time to design a fantastic DiA Project for back in the UK!

A few important considerations:

Volunteers for the Summer (2-month) placement should be realistic about the extent to which they can be involved in their partner organisation’s work in such a short space of time.

The following points apply to all DiA Placements:

• Basic computer skills and Internet familiarity will be an advantage for writing reports and keeping in contact with the UK.
• Volunteers of the same sex on each placement, usually.
• You must be culturally sensitive and patient.
• It is helpful if applicants have some development knowledge / awareness - but this is not essential for all the placements - it is more about enthusiasm, flexibility and willingness to learn.
• DiA focuses on development, WE ARE NOT A TRAVEL AGENCY. We are an organisation run largely by past volunteers and on your return you are welcome to assist in running the organisation, gaining more experience and keeping in touch with our partner organisations.
