For the majority of placements no specific skills are required and all are welcome to apply. We welcome applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds, and all we ask is that you are enthusiastic and have an interest in development issues and India.
Our volunteers are in some cases students looking to use their summer break productively, recent graduates looking to broaden their knowledge of the development world, or those in work looking to take a career break or have a more active holiday.
We do look for a willingness to commit to our UK Development Education programme since that is the main thrust of our work, and we hope that you will consider becoming involved in this upon your return. Our placements enable you to join local people in their work and learn from and with them. Willingness to learn is therefore an important personal attribute, as is flexibility to cope with the diversity of challenges that you will face working in a country like India.
You should note that while you do not need to be a UK citizen you will be interviewed and trained in the UK before you leave for India. Unfortunately we are generally unable to accept applications from those under 18 years of age.
