The volunteer project and training pack
Each volunteer on our programme is encouraged to produce a project/develop resources during their time in India. Recent volunteers have taken workshops in primary schools as part of the Citizenship curriculum; held India-themed workshops for groups of Girl Guides and young people; and produced a display board on the theme of ‘Religion and Development in India’. We will shortly be able to offer the following resources: a video and workshop for Keystage 3/4 on the experiences of deaf children in a school in India ; a training pack for volunteers on advocacy for disabled groups and a more general pre-placement training pack for volunteers working abroad. All of these will be available via our website. A detailed list of projects can be found here.
Development in Action has been working with volunteers for over ten years. In response to feedback from our partner organisations in India , returned volunteers and research by our UK volunteers, we have modified our training programme and developed a structured approach for preparing volunteers for their time abroad. More information about the pack is available here.
DiA Magazine
The DiA magazine continues to grow as a development education resource. As the internet becomes accessible to increasing numbers of people we took the decision this year to limit the print editions of our magazine to one annual copy, with a compendium of the best articles of the year, new articles from volunteers, members in the UK and guest writers, events listings from the development community in the UK and India and news from DiA UK. We hope this will mean an even higher quality in terms of content and presentation, it also allows us to reduce the cost of production. You can download pdf files of our print editions here.
DiA Website
Our website is the final pillar of our outreach work and contains lots of great information including:
- The DiA magazine is a quarterly publication that is distributed via our website and mailing list
- The events section which aims to get young people involved in as many interesting projects and activities as possible
- The mailing list which sends subscribers emails containing: DiA Articles; Development Education Events; Volunteer reflections
- Links we like and details of Fair Trade organisations
